Number of displayed Records of Oracle APEX Popup LOV

Recently I answered a question about where to change the number of displayed records of a Popup LOV in Oracle APEX and I thought it could be of general interest.

The behavior of Popup LOVs can be changed through the Popup Lov template. You can find it at
Shared Components\Templates\Popup LOV.

In the Pagination section you will find the property Display which defines how many records are displayed at once.

The Popup LOV template also contains other interesting settings like the icon which is used for the popup lov field or the text for the search button, the width and height which is used to display the popup lov window and much more. Just have a look!

  1. Hi Patrick,
    I want to display more than only 1 column in my LOV. Is that possible?

  2. Hi Niels,

    the only possibility is to concatenate the columns. eg.

    SELECT LAST_NAME||’ ‘||FIRST_NAME AS NAME
    , USER_ID
    FROM MY_USERS
    ORDER BY 1

  3. Hi Patrick, I’m new on Apex and wanted to know if it’s possible to replicate the way popup lovs work on Forms, meaning that when I select a value from the lov the description gets displayed in a field and the ID gets store in a hidden field. Thanks for your reply.

  4. Hi Anibal,

    have a look at page items of type “Popup Key LOV”.

  5. I noticed some strange behaviour of LOVs in tabular forms. But it only got tricky when you have a large (over 1000 rows) LOV. LOVs with select lists seem to work (not for named LOVs though), but when I made a LOV of over 1000 records I got the (annoying) “ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error”. How ever, when I switched to Popup list this disappeared. However, the tabular form just showed the returning value (an ID in my case) and not the description. Something you don’t want. So, I hope your suggestion about the pagination section will work, but, wouldn’t it be nice if users could type something like ‘Ford%’ in order to get a list of all Fords types instead of a list of all cars? And second, it would really cheer me up if there would be an easy way to make LOV’s in tabular forms context sensitive (for instance: I put up “Ireland” as a country and in my LOV is can on select Irish cities). And one thing: I would like to have a check box that says “check to validate input using LOV” (even when you haven’t used the LOV that is). Well, I keep you updated :)

  6. Hi Patrick,

    Is it possible to add First and Last buttons in a popup lov along with Next and Prev? These buttons should display the first and last rowsets respectively. I couldn’t find a way to do it in the popup lov template. If this is not possible what is the alternative? Thanks

  7. Hi Patrick, I’m interested to see if it’s possible to add buttons to the popup LOV window, i.e. ADD if someone can’t find the entry they need. At the moment, I have this as a button outside of the LOV, but would be neater inside the LOV window if possible? Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Stephen.

  8. Hi Patrick,

    Can you suggest any example/site for popup LOV using on demand process. I cannot use the selected lov in tabular form as I have 75000 records. It results for buffer too small.

    Regards,
    Steward.

  9. /* for table driven List Of Values definition using data from multiple columns: */
    SELECT
    CASE
    WHEN (UPPER(REQUEST_PRIORITY_LEVEL) LIKE ‘N/A’)
    THEN REQUEST_PRIORITY_LEVEL || ‘ (Not Applicable)’
    ELSE REQUEST_PRIORITY_LEVEL
    || ‘ (start in ‘
    || REQUEST_PRIORITY_LEVEL_DAYS
    || ‘ business days)’
    END AS display_value,
    REQUEST_PRIORITY_LEVEL return_value
    FROM AR_MIS_REQUEST_PRIORITY
    ORDER BY UPPER(REQUEST_PRIORITY_LEVEL)

    I’m sorry I’m new apex user. Could you explain to me how Can I created a POPUP KEY LOV?

    I need to display it in a tabular form field. Is it possible to return more than two items?
